Glacier Society to Sail Arctic Scout from Ft. Lauderdale to Mystic for Navy and Coast Guard Reunion

MYSTIC, Conn. - July 30, 2024 - PRLog -- The Glacier Society is excited to announce the departure of the Arctic Scout, the scout boat from the historic USS and USCG Glacier, on a voyage from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, to Mystic, CT. This significant journey, starting the first week of August, is in preparation for the Glacier Society's Navy and Coast Guard veterans reunion, scheduled for September 20-22, 2024.

The Arctic Scout will be helmed by Sandy Hartman, serving as captain and Ben Koether, the  founder and chairman of the Glacier Society. This voyage is a tribute to the legacy of polar exploration and the service of veterans who dedicated their careers to the USS and USCG Glacier.

"We are setting sail this week with great anticipation," said Ben Koether, founder and Chairman of the Glacier Society. "This voyage represents a significant tribute to the brave men and women who served on the USS and USCG Glacier. It is an honor to navigate the Arctic Scout up the East Coast and celebrate our shared history with veterans and supporters."

The Arctic Scout is expected to arrive in Connecticut by the last week of August. While the primary goal is to reach Mystic, the crew plans to allow for some "visiting" along the way, conditions permitting.

"We're prepared for whatever the weather may have in store for us," added Sandy Hartman, captain of the Arctic Scout. "This journey is not only about reaching our destination but also about honoring the rich history and contributions of the Glacier Society."

Upon arrival in Mystic, the Arctic Scout will be a centerpiece of the veterans reunion, offering cruises to veterans, allowing them to relive their experiences and create new memories. This special gathering will foster camaraderie and honor the contributions of those who served aboard the USS and USCG Glacier.
