Prestigious recognition for outstanding contributions to the maritime industry

NEW YORK - Aug. 6, 2024 - PRLog -- The United Seamen's Service (USS) proudly announces the recipients of the 55th annual Admiral of the Ocean Sea (AOTOS) Awards. This year's honorees are Tim Nolan, President and CEO of the TOTE Group; Augustin "Augie" Tellez, Executive Vice President of the Seafarers International Union (SIU); and Daniel J. Thorogood, CEO of Fairwater.

A Special AOTOS Recognition Plaque will also be awarded to ILWU Local 142 and the Hawaii Longshore Division for their exceptional response to the catastrophic wildfire in Lahaina, Maui, in August 2023.

The prestigious AOTOS Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to seafarers and the maritime industry, will be presented at a gala dinner and dance on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel. The event will also honor American seafarers for their heroism and bravery.

For over 50 years, USS has celebrated individuals and organizations who have made significant impacts in advancing the maritime sector and supporting seafarers.

Tim Nolan, President and CEO of the TOTE Group, has made significant contributions over his 10+ years with TOTE. His leadership has driven investments in new and refitted American-flag vessels and the creation of a vessel construction management company for MARAD-owned vessels.

Augustin "Augie" Tellez, Executive Vice President of SIU, has dedicated his entire career to the well-being of SIU members and the U.S.-flag maritime industry. His leadership during the pandemic and efforts in safety programs and regulatory compliance underscore his dedication to seafarers.

Daniel J. Thorogood, CEO of Fairwater, leads the newly established Jones Act energy and chemical transportation company. Fairwater, a joint venture between SEACOR Holdings and Crowley, operates a diverse fleet and provides ship management and engineering services.

ILWU Local 142 and the Hawaii Longshore Division will be honored for their swift and effective response to the wildfire disaster in Lahaina. Their actions, providing essential supplies and humanitarian aid, exemplify the ILWU's dedication to supporting communities in crisis.

Proceeds from the AOTOS event will fund USS services for U.S. mariners, international seafarers, and military members abroad. David W. Heindel will be Dinner Chairman, with F. Anthony Naccarato and Joseph J. Cox as National Committee Co-Chairmen. USS is led by Edward R. Morgan and Roger T. Korner.
