DETROIT - Aug. 19, 2024 - PRLog -- The Projection Booth podcast celebrates their milestone 700th episode with a return to Tinto Brass's troubled production of Caligula (1980).

A decade ago, film experts Maitland McDonagh and Rob St. Mary joined host Mike White for their first in-depth discussion on Caligula, featuring insightful commentary from scholar Ranjit Sandhu, who revealed the sordid history behind the film's production, and filmmaker Alexander Tuschinski, who explored director Tinto Brass's original vision.

Fast forward to 2018 and the re-discovery of over 90 hours of raw footage from Caligula, sparking a conversation with former Penthouse CEO Kelly Holland and Alexander Tuschinski about restoring the film to Brass's intended vision. This journey was captured in Tuschinski's documentary, Mission: Caligula.

In 2023, Caligula returned to the spotlight. The Cannes Film Festival showcased Caligula: The Ultimate Cut (initially known as Caligula MMXX), produced by Thomas Negovan. In a four-hour extravaganza, The Projection Booth's latest episode brings together Heather Drain, Rob St. Mary, and Mike White to dissect this new version of the controversial film, while reflecting on the twists and turns of the project over the past six years. Special guests include Caroline Kirkendoll, President of Penthouse Global Licensing, and director Alexander Tuschinski.

Caligula: The Ultimate Cut is currently enjoying a limited U.S. release via Drafthouse Films. You can listen to this in-depth discussion on The Projection Booth, available on all major podcast platforms or directly via the website: www.projectionboothpodcast.com.

Founded in 2011, The Projection Booth is a proud member of the Weirding Way Media network and has earned a reputation as "the ultimate movie podcast," celebrated for its deep dives into cinema. Recognized by The Washington Post, The A.V. Club, IndieWire, Entertainment Weekly, and Filmmaker Magazine, the podcast boasts over 700 episodes, featuring a diverse array of films and renowned special guests like Jeff Goldblum, Ellen Burstyn, Willem Dafoe, and more.
