Follow on Google News | Leybold develops vacuum solution for sustainable beer bottlingOil-free vacuum reduces costs and ensures a high level of hygiene
By: Leybold Innovative Vacuum Solution Leybold's new BBVS (Beer Bottling Vacuum System) replaces traditional liquid ring pumps, which are less efficient and environmentally friendly. Capable of handling up to 60,000 bottles per hour, the BBVS offers a sustainable, all-in-one solution with a dry screw vacuum pump for consistent performance. Seamless Integration The system includes a separator tank, automated draining, and PLC controls, making it easy to integrate with existing equipment or operate independently. The Water-Cooled DRYVAC: The Star of the Show Leybold's water-cooled DRYVAC models, the DV 650 FP-r and DV 800 FP-r, are the core of their vacuum solution for industrial processes. These screw vacuum pumps operate quietly, with noise levels of 67 dB(A) and 70 dB(A), respectively, allowing installation near filling systems. They also emit minimal heat, preventing the formation of caramel layers when sugars in residual beer are exposed to high temperatures. CIP and Pump Flushing for a Clean System The DRYVAC system features a CIP spray ball in the stainless-steel separator, allowing cleaning without shutdown. Pump flushing with hot water is also possible, offering a key advantage of dry vacuum pumps. Both cleaning processes are PLC-controlled and can be initiated manually or automatically. Designed for Efficiency DRYVAC pumps are highly efficient, requiring 15-20% less energy than liquid ring pumps and reducing cooling water consumption by 80%. The cooling circuit is entirely separate, allowing water reuse for other tasks. Maintenance is low, with only an annual gearbox oil exchange and a full overhaul every five years. Enhancing the Filling Process The DRYVAC's stable vacuum levels improve bottling quality, reducing TPO (Total Packaged Oxygen), a crucial factor in beer taste and shelf life. This enhanced vacuum also lowers CO2 consumption, as less oxygen needs to be removed during the evacuation process, according to BBVS Product Manager Sven Hanses. "With Leybold Beer Bottling Vacuum Systems, brewers can significantly lower operating costs, enhance bottling quality, and reduce both energy consumption and CO2 emissions, contributing to a more sustainable brewing industry," concludes Hanses.
