Local Vietnam Veteran Tom Equels Shares Insights on Mental Health and Healing at Veterans Day

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Nov. 5, 2024 - PRLog -- Coral Gables, FL – In honor of Veterans Day, the community is invited to a special event featuring Sir Thomas (Tom) Equels, a highly decorated Vietnam combat veteran, on Sunday, November 10, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Books & Books, located at 265 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables, FL. The event is free and open to the public and media.

During "A Morning with Vietnam War Veteran Tom Equels," attendees will hear powerful war stories and insights into the challenges faced by veterans, including the importance of mental health support. Equels will share excerpts from his debut novel, The Horseman's Tale, which highlights Vietnam memories (like the forgotten legacy of Camp Lejeune) and explores unique healing methods for mental health and PTSD, such as creative expression and equine therapy, making it a compelling narrative that speaks directly to the challenges faced by those who have served.

"Horses create a special bond that really supports mental health. They offer companionship and understanding—something veterans truly need," Equels explains. His experiences as a knighted member of the Equestrian Order of Saint Gregory and a combat-wounded veteran inform his advocacy for mental health awareness among veterans.

Sir Thomas (Tom) Equels, MS, JD, is a distinguished figure whose multifaceted career spans military, legal, and equine achievements. A combat-wounded Vietnam veteran and recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and Purple Heart, Equels is also a seasoned Thoroughbred and Paso Fino breeder and trainer. His work in civil rights and social justice is well-regarded, and he currently leads Aim Immunotech Inc. His experiences and insights bring a unique depth to his writing.
