By: Michigan Philharmonic Led by Nan Washburn, now in her 26th season as conductor and music director, the Philharmonic will perform in Plymouth and Northville in December, offering a wide array of holiday pops, classical and other celebratory seasonal music. The Phil's youth orchestra will also host a concert in Canton. A longtime community tradition, the Michigan Phil's annual "Holiday Pops with the Phil" concert includes two performances, both at 7:30 p.m. The first is set for Thursday, Dec. 12 at the First United Methodist Church on North Territorial in Plymouth. Then on Friday, Dec. 13 the Philharmonic will return to the Marquis Theater in downtown Northville for another holiday pops concert. Limited tickets are still available at michiganphil.org. The Michigan Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) will also host its annual Winter Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. Join the five youth ensembles for a special holiday show at Canton's Village Theater on Cherry Hill Road. Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for students. During the main holiday concerts in Plymouth and Northville, Philharmonic horn player Dominic Hayes will be featured. The holiday pieces spotlighted include "Classic Christmas Carols," arranged by Jack Bullock, "Festive Sounds of Hanukkah," arranged by Bill Holcombe, "Concert Rondo in E-Flat Major, K.371," by Amadeus Mozart, "White Christmas," by Irving Berlin, "Jingle Bells Forever," by James Pierpont and John P. Sousa, a traditional "African Noel," and "Christmas at the Movies." A sing-along of Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" will wrap each performance.
