24 Years Later, a Long-Awaited Honeymoon for Terminally-Ill Florida Man Comes to Life

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Dec. 23, 2024 - PRLog -- 57-year-old Marc Weig from St. Johns, Fla., and his wife of 24 years, Helene, recently returned from a very belated Hawaiian honeymoon made possible by Dream Foundation and Genentech.

The couple had intended to go on a honeymoon when they married but were never able to make it happen. When Marc was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer, they realized that it was now or never—but they needed help.

V for Victory, a local non-profit supporting those with cancer in Jacksonville, Fla, suggested Marc reach out to Dream Foundation, the only national dream-granting organization for terminally-ill adults.

"My Dream is to give us that honeymoon we never got," Marc wrote. "I would be so grateful if we could make the trip of a lifetime together before it is too late."

With help from the local community in Kihei, Hawaii, Marc, Helene, and Marc Jr., the youngest of the couple's six children, spent six days and five nights exploring the island of Maui. Their honeymoon was complete with a morning cruise where Marc swam in the warm crystal blue ocean, a moment of pure joy and relief.

Before the trip, Tiffany Doering from biotechnology company Genentech delivered everything provided for Marc's Dream. Genentech has partnered with Dream Foundation since 2006.

Tiffany added her own special gifts - a goodie basket, flowers, and cupcakes, saying, "It was such a pleasure to meet with Marc and Helene."
