Follow on Google News | The Young Beekeeper Taking The Honey Industry By StormDafydd Pett, 21, is the owner of The Welsh Honey Company that produces bold, award winning raw honey.
By: Dafydd Pett, Owner Growing up in Bridgend, Dafydd initially sold honey at local farmers markets, but his entrepreneurial spirit quickly led him to create a website and master search engine optimisation to boost his online sales. "I knew I had to think outside the box and use my youth to my advantage," said Dafydd. By 17, he represented Wales at the International Meeting of Young Beekeepers in Slovakia, competing with youth from around the world. While continuing his beekeeping venture, Dafydd managed to balance his studies, including GCSEs and A-levels, and build The Welsh Honey Company. Despite facing fierce competition in a market dominated by long-established businesses, Dafydd's dedication to quality and sustainability paid off. "Beekeeping wasn't just a hobby—it was a responsibility," The Welsh Honey Company's commitment to sustainability is evident in its entire production process, from ethical sourcing to bee-friendly farming practices. Dafydd's mission extends beyond just selling honey—he actively works to educate the public about the importance of bees. As a trustee of the Bridgend & District Beekeeping Association, he shares his knowledge through tutorials and partnerships with local schools and environmental groups. The Welsh Honey Company has gained significant recognition, winning several prestigious awards, including Welsh Honey Enterprise of the Year in 2023 and 2024, and Great Taste Awards in 2021 and 2024. The company has also earned a reputation for producing high-quality, natural honey that reflects the diverse flavours of Wales. "Every jar is a snapshot of the land, the seasons, and the hardworking bees that make it all possible," says Dafydd. Looking ahead, Dafydd is excited about the future. He hopes to inspire more people to adopt sustainable beekeeping practices and continue growing The Welsh Honey Company's presence. "The future of Welsh honey is bright, and we're just getting started," he says. Now celebrating his 11th year of beekeeping, Dafydd continues to lead The Welsh Honey Company with a vision to preserve biodiversity and support the local economy.
