SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Jan. 30, 2025 - PRLog -- Led by the PR - USA Chamber of Commerce, with the collaboration of the United Retailers Association (CUD), INDUNIV, IFD and RICCE, the Puerto Rico Reshoring Coalition (PUERIRICO) is making headway in its efforts to attract interest to bring manufacturing back to the island of Puerto Rico.

The delegation will travel to Washington D.C. where PUERIRICO will be announced at Capitol Hill in early February, 2025. Founding members include: Yolanda Lassalle, Taylor Widrig, Elmer Roman, Ivan Lugo, Luis Torres-Llompart, Ramon Barquin, Thomas Agrait, Antonio Tito Colorado, Heriberto Torres-Cortes, Luis Alemañy, and José Luis Rivera-Villamañán.

This coalition represents a collaborative effort among government officials, industry leaders, and economic development specialists united in the mission to encourage retention, and the return of mainland operations to the island. National security concerns, and several incentives can make it happen. Microchips manufacturing feasibility is also being analyzed.

The primary objective of the reshoring coalition is to project and raise awareness, as well as a to explain why Puerto Rico must be a national and Latin America priority in U.S. public policy and legislation by communicating Puerto Rico's edge in competitiveness on the global manufacturing stage, and to facilitate opportunities and projects which took a major downfall after the repeal of the 936 incentives.

January 10th, 2025 was the official launch and signing of PUERIRECO in San Juan, where the coalition's leaders discussed the challenges and potentials of reshoring for Puerto Rico's economy. PRUSACC's Chairman, Jose Luis Rivera-Villamañán, presented a background and action plan with short and long term strategies including a draft plan for immediate action with a key strategy to anchor its efforts with PRUSACC's influential base and mainland offices.

The coalition has outlined several key objectives in revitalizing the manufacturing landscape, which was highly successful in the past. Rivera-Villamañan emphasized, "One of the foremost goals is establishing and leveraging PRUSACC's strength to channel support for PUERIRECO through our influence in Washington, D.C. and nationwide to generate support among national, close partner organizations like the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Congress and federal agencies."

Industry sectors of interest are pharmaceutical, medical devices, and life sciences to name a few. PUERIRICO will establish strategic partnerships with a variety of stakeholders. Attracting support of ACT 60 international investors is a significant focus, as the council aims to showcase Puerto Rico's potential as a prime manufacturing hub, the gateway to Latin America, and welcoming increased trade and twin-plant opportunities with the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Mexico, the Caribbean region, and Panama.

PUERIRICO will be formally announced in early February, 2025 in Washington D.C. at Capitol Hill to the Puerto Rico Resident Commissioner and the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs office.
