By: CorVita AED Angela Buckalew, Founder & CEO of HTH Safety Solutions and CorVita, is changing that. With over 20 years in healthcare and safety, she has trained 100,000+ individuals in AED use, CPR, and emergency response. She works with businesses, first responders, and schools to ensure more people are prepared to act. A Decade of Advocacy & Training Buckalew launched HTH Safety Solutions in 2013 after recognizing a gap—AEDs were installed but rarely included in emergency planning. "People don't think about AEDs until it's too late," says Buckalew. "Knowing where an AED is and how to use it can mean life or death." Through hands-on training, she helps organizations develop response strategies emphasizing rapid AED access and confident use. Breaking Barriers to AED Accessibility Despite more AEDs in public spaces, accessibility and standardization remain challenges. Many hesitate to use AEDs, fearing mistakes, while others don't realize how easy they are to operate. "Every second matters in a cardiac emergency," Buckalew explains. "Our goal is to eliminate barriers that prevent life-saving action." Innovating for Faster Emergency Response Buckalew identified another issue—AED pad compatibility. Pads from different brands often don't work together, wasting valuable time. In 2024, she founded CorVita to develop a universal AED pad adapter, ensuring seamless compatibility across brands. "AEDs save lives, but losing time switching pads can be fatal," says Buckalew. "Universal connectivity makes emergency response faster and more effective." Buckalew continues advocating for AED accessibility, training, and policy reform to make AEDs a priority in workplaces, schools, and public spaces. For more information, visit www.corvitaaed.com. End
