AUSTIN, Texas - March 11, 2025 - PRLog -- AUSTIN, Texas – State Representative Ken King (R-Canadian) today announced the filing of House Concurrent Resolution 101, proclaiming the tomahawk ribeye as the official State Steak of Texas. The measure is a direct response to Senate Concurrent Resolution 26, introduced last week to bestow that same distinction on the "Texas Strip" steak, an objectively inferior cut of meat. HCR 101 was referred to the House Committee on Steak Affairs this morning.

"The Texas House is raising the steaks today, and we have a bone to pick with anyone who disputes that the tomahawk ribeye is the most premium cut in the Lone Star State," said Rep. Ken King. "While the Texas Senate butters up a lesser cut, we won't let them outflank our efforts to sear the tomahawk's rightful place in Texas history. The Senate's 'Texas Strip' might shine on a sizzling plate of fajitas, but when it comes to the superior steak, the tomahawk ribeye is a cut above the rest. I look forward to steering this resolution to passage."

Speaker Dustin Burrows added, "Like Texas, the tomahawk ribeye is a prime symbol of greatness and, as the official Steak of Texas, would be a fitting tribute to our state. Lawmakers have a rare opportunity to serve up solutions on meat-and-potato policy issues this session, and while I have no beef with other cuts of steak, Texans should not have to stomach anything less than the best. I appreciate Representative King's seasoned leadership and for bringing lawmakers to the table to secure the tomahawk ribeye's rightful place as the official Steak of Texas."

HCR 101 recognizes Texas as the leading producer of beef in the United States, with over 12.2 million head of cattle. With the state's beef industry accounting for a significant share of agricultural output and bringing in millions of dollars in revenue, the concurrent resolution supports Texas beef products and honors the importance of steak to Texas's cultural identity.
