God-Fearing Golden Boy Boxer Loses First Professional Fight in West Coast Debut

WASHINGTON - Oct. 6, 2015 - PRLog -- The former undefeated professional featherweight boxer Kevin Rivers Jr. hails from the hometown of the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard. The 25 year old Palmer Park, Maryland native made is professional west coast debut on the Lucas Matthysse- Viktor Postol undercard October 3rd at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, CA.

Rivers entered the fight with a professional record of 12-0 with 9 wins coming by way of knockout. During a huge upset victory for Alejandro Ochoa, Rivers was knocked down for the 1st time in his professional career during the first and second rounds of the fight. After six action packed rounds of boxing 2/3 judges scored the fight in favor of Rivers opponent and the third judge scored the fight a draw after a vicious offensive comeback by Kevin Rivers Jr.

Rivers’ is one of the most highly decorated boxers in the featherweight and super-featherweight divisions. Dedication and humility continue to make way for the 25 year old Christian boxer, who heavily relies on his faith both inside and outside of the ring. Following his unexpected loss Rivers released the following statement.

Kevin “K-Smoove” Rivers Jr. is an American featherweight professional boxer from Palmer Park, MD. Rivers has a current professional record of 12-1-9 (12 wins, 1 loss, 9 knockouts) signed with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. He was a highly decorated amateur national champion with a 150-15 record. Rivers began boxing at the age of 9 and has 16 years of experience in the ring. He is from a family of boxers, his grandfather was street knockout artist, and his father and uncles trained in Palmer Park boxing gyms home of the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard.
