SEM Link Celebrates the Solar Eclipse with Art Contest for Metro Atlanta Youth

ATLANTA - Jan. 31, 2024 - PRLog -- Science, Engineering and Mathematics Link Inc. (SEM Link) through its Community STEM program is celebrating the total solar eclipse which takes place on April 8^th, by hosting an Astronomical Events Science Illustration (Art) Contest. The contest held in partnership with the Fulton Public Library System and the City of Douglasville Park and Recreation Department is for youth in Douglas and South Fulton (in the cities of Atlanta, College Park, East Point, Hapeville, South Fulton) counties. This contest provides youth who have an interest in both Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Art to explore their interests in both areas. "Atlanta is not in the path of totality of the solar eclipse; however, I feel that it is important to provide youth with an opportunity to learn about astronomical events. Scientists and engineers allow us to view images of astronomical events from satellites and telescopes. An art contest is a perfect way for youth to explore this phenomenon utilizing science illustration/art, which combines Art and STEM." States Ms. Tokiwa T. The Astronomical Events Science Illustration (Art) Contest is divided into 3 age categories: Grades 3 through 5, Grades 6 through 8 and Grades 9 through 12. Only the art of astronomical events, celestial body events such as eclipses, novae or planetary collisions will be accepted for the contest. Students enter the contest by completing an online form, http://bit.ly/SEMLinkArtContest2024 , in which they must upload a sketch or concept of their art. Drawings, paintings or computer aided illustrations will be accepted. Contest winners will be invited to showcase their art at an art show in April, in which they can win prizes as well as meet local artists.  Submissions for the contest will be accepted until Friday, February 16th, 2024.
