Dec. 16, 2008 - PRLog -- Specialist technical, engineering and IT recruitment firm, NES, has named its group payroll and billing manager, Margaret Long, employee of the year and awarded her with the £5,000 top prize at its inaugural award ceremony.

The event, attended by staff from across the company’s 21 international offices, saw NES employees – support staff as well as recruiters – recognised for their efforts during 2008 and claiming several additional cash prizes of £1,000.

A range of awards were presented for financial achievements: senior recruitment consultant, Vincent Arumugam, based in Malaysia and associate director, Sarah Taylor from the NES head office, were jointly named the highest billing contract recruiters after generating record breaking amounts of gross profit from their contract placements over the last year; while recruitment team leader, Marcus Ward, who heads the company’s Perth office, attained the highest billing permanent recruiter award.

Orlando-based senior recruitment consultant, Miriam Rivera secured the most contract placements, while recruitment consultant, Jo An Calanday, who is based in Dubai, collected her award for the most permanent placements. Lead consultant, Cheryl Grew, from Houston, was named most improved recruiter following her exceptional performance during 2008. Further nominations were also sought from the entire global workforce and were open to every member of NES staff – recruitment and support.

Financial controller for the company’s Asia and the Middle East regions, Lee Coleman was named best new employee; the exceptional service award was presented to accounts manager, Emma Garside; and recruitment manager, Nick Bradley, claimed the prize for the best use of the company’s Value Proposition:

Guaranteed recruitment solutions, engineered from the global talent pool, by discipline specific consultants.

Nick, whose team specialises in the placement of white-collar personnel within the electrical, control and instrumentation department at the company’s North West headquarters, said: “This award was special as it showed me that the hard work put in over the past four years in restructuring, setting up and developing four niche business areas within my department didn't just deliver GP growth for us, it has also been recognised within NES through this award.”

Margaret Long joined NES in July 2007 and has rebuilt the company’s payroll and invoicing functions through hard work, determination and considerable patience, taking NES from “zero to hero” with its contractors, according to Neil Tregarthen. Margaret was presented with the top award and a cheque for £5,000 after being nominated by her colleagues as Employee of the Year.

“Being the winner of The Employee of the Year award, especially in the first year of this award being given, is a great honour, and I would like to thank everyone that voted for me,” says Margaret. “I really didn’t think I had done anything special as to me all I did is turn up to a job I love at a company I love working for,” she adds.

“I couldn’t have achieved anything without a great team; not only my team, but all the support functions that touch on our success, especially the IT Department - if our systems didn’t work so well we could not have achieved what we have done,” Margaret continues.

NES chief executive, Neil Tregarthen adds: “It was a real thrill to be able to announce the nominees of the inaugural annual NES Awards at our dinner at the Midland Hotel in Manchester and an even bigger one to present the awards to the winners. All of the finalists were hugely deserving of their recognition and it was a very difficult task, for the non-financially based awards, to decide on who the overall category winners should be.

“Of course, the finalists were only a small number of a much larger group of staff, who contributed to another great year for NES, so whilst commenting on the awards, I would also like to reiterate my thanks to everyone in the business for their efforts this year. Our intention is to make the awards dinner an annual event and to continue to acknowledge special contributions from our teams, wherever they are in the world,” Neil concludes.
