Jan. 1, 2009 - PRLog -- According to Max Hoyt, Here are the 4 biggest reasons people fail to make a long term change in their lifestyle:

Problem 1. Hoyt says that a lack of guidance is the major killer for new exercisers, "most people join a gym and start doing whatever they see other people doing, often just going from one machine to another without any over all strategy. This is a sure fire way to waste your time. Eventually this person will get discouraged because they aren't seeing results and ultimately they'll stop." Hoyt says the solution is simple, "Hire a professional! Hire a personal trainer or join a boot camp so you can be taught how to exercise properly." Hoyt says that depending on how much or how little experience you have, you may need to do one on one training in order to learn the fundamentals of exercise.

Problem 2. A lack of accountability. Hoyt says that not having someone looking over your shoulder and holding you accountable is why many people are quitting. "A good personal trainer or boot camp instructor knows how to motivate and keep motivated many different types of people. Hoyt says that he has many people in his camp that tell him they wouldn't come if it wasn't for the fact that they've paid him and that they know he'll bug them until they do. "that kind of accountability is exactly what people need to have the consistency it takes to see great results."

Problem 3. No nutritional guidance. Hoyt firmly believes that too many people focus on the workout and aren't being taught how to eat. "working out is vital, but you can eat yourself out of any workout plan and kill your results" Hoyt says that any personal trainer or boot camp worth it's salt will have a nutrition plan for it's clients. Otherwise, they are dooming their members to mediocre results. "If you don't give your clients a nutrition plan they can follow and learn from, then are you really dedicated to their success?"

Problem 4. No social support network. Hoyt states that this is one of the most overlooked aspects to success for new exercisers. "It's absolutely vital that a new exerciser has people around him/her that support their attempt to change their lifestyle." Often says Hoyt, the lack of any support brings down the best intentioned of exercisers. "If you are trying to make a change in your life and everyone around you is going on business as usual, it's very hard to make a lasting change. You'll feel isolated from your friends and family and often times the social pressure can kill your willpower." Hoyt says that having a trainer that communicates with you outside of your sessions is vital to providing needed support. He goes on to say that fitness boot camps are a great way to build social support. "Being in a group environment with like minded people will always help keep you going when your own motivation is lagging.
