APICS Toledo Announces 2009 Student Scholarship Recipients

Jan. 18, 2009 - PRLog -- Toledo, Ohio, –  The APICS Toledo chapter is pleased to announce the winners of its annual college scholarship program.  The focus of this scholarship program is the recognition of academic excellence among college and university students majoring in operations management, supply chain management, or other closely related academic programs.  The theme of this scholarship program is “operational excellence begins with academic excellence”.  This years recipients are:  Ashley Timmons, Teresia Dulle, Myles Stewart, Myles Knechtges, Cynthia Knechtges and, Katherine Eboch.  Each of these students will receive $500 towards their educational expenses.

A major goal of the APICS Toledo Chapter is to better educate and inform the professional community in the Northwestern Ohio area.  One way that is accomplished is to aid in the education of highly talented students planning careers in operations management, supply chain management or other closely related fields.  As such, a major objective of the scholarship program is to encourage stronger ties between the local academic community and APICS Toledo. The purpose of this objective is to support the efforts of students enrolled in local colleges and universities who will most likely be employed by firms operating within the greater Toledo area.

In addition, the APICS Toledo Board of Directors also approved the contribution of $500 to the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank and $5,000 to the APICS Toledo scholarship endowment funds at Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo.  Each school’s endowment funds will receive $2,500.

The Toledo chapter was chartered in 1962 and supports the association’s aims by:
·  Offering on-going classroom training in Toledo and surrounding areas
·  Partnering with Jackson Community College to offer training in Southern Michigan
·  Offering Professional Development meetings
·  Organizing plant and facility tours for benchmarking
·  Mentoring student chapters at Bowling Green State and University of Toledo
·  Offering eight (8) $500 college scholarships per year to university students
·  Supporting 3 certifications in the Operations Management field
The Toledo chapter has in excess of 340 members and is operated by local professional volunteers as a non-profit organization.
