White Paper: Enabling Location-Based Services Through Passive Monitoring Techniques

Jan. 22, 2009 - PRLog -- Blandford, England – Telesoft Technologies today announced availability of a new white paper describing the use of passive monitoring probes within 2G and 3G mobile networks as a basis for providing location-based services.

Passive monitoring is able to provide location information for all mobile devices attached to the mobile network, independent of make/model, allowing a range of sophisticated, geographically targeted applications to be offered. Services include navigation aids to guide users, location-based advertising and alert services, as well as person tracking for E911/E112 emergency and homeland security.

Using monitoring probe technology within the network avoids the requirement for handset-based solutions, such as GPS enabled handsets. This allows services to be offered to every subscriber on the network, even those with the most basic handset functionality typical of pre-paid mobile phones. This ability to reach 100% of subscribers is a compelling business argument to adopting a network centric approach to location-based services.
