Jan. 28, 2009 - PRLog -- Pune:  Sachin Duggal and Saurabh Dhoot, founders of Nivio, a company that has developed technologies to make cloud computing more accessible and affordable to all, created history today by becoming the youngest Indian attendees at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Nivio’s founders are being honored among six thousand delegates as Technology Pioneers for 2009 and they join an elite group of companies chosen for innovation in developing technologies that would have a deep impact on society and businesses. Previous Technology Pioneers include Google, Infosys, Mozilla Corporation, 23andme, Amyris Biotechnologies, Gridpoint, Kaspersky Lab, and Nanosolar among others.

The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2009 promises to be one of the most important events in the Forum’s history as it will be focused on managing the current world economic crisis and shaping the post crisis agenda. Nivio’s inclusion as the Technology Pioneer 2009 emphasizes the objective of the Forum’s meeting to improve the state of the world to integrate all stakeholders of a global society.

Excited about being a part of such an important event, Sachin Duggal said, “Nivio is the manifestation of our dream to create a simple and affordable computing ecosystem that fosters education, connects communities, creates dreams and empowers people. We are the world’s first cloud computer that will make computing as simple and affordable as Cable TV. At the World Economic Forum we will be discussing with world-leaders how with the use of Nivio, the future of the  world can be revolutionized; wiring up the five billion people who do not have access to computing; who remain currently disconnected from achieving their potential.”

Nivio has the potential to help provide computing access to over 1 billion in India without a computer. It promotes complete computing freedom; liberating the users from current problems of data loss, technology obsolescence, viruses and accessibility. Nivio provides each of its users with a personal, secure virtual Windows Desktop running in the Cloud, accessible through internet connected devices & computers.

About Nivio
Nivio, who have delivered the world's first on-line windows desktop, is a utility-computing company that makes the complex world of computing as easy as Cable TV for consumers and small businesses. Users can now simply enjoy the "use" of computing without the headaches and complexities associated with them (installing applications, constantly upgrading, fighting viruses, data loss etc). In short, Nivio provides a full virtual Windows Desktop that can be accessed through any internet connected computer and soon any internet connected device. Designed both as an on-line service and an on-line service bundled with a device – small, affordable (circa US$100), low power, low maintenance - Nivio offers a solution to customers in the developing and developed world; for those with a PC and those without a PC.

The selection of Nivio by the WEF as a Technology Pioneer is the latest recognition of the potential for Nivio to change the computing landscape. With this award, Nivio joins a prestigious group of companies that include Mozilla Firefox, Google and Corel. Processor manufacturer AMD partnered with Nivio 2 years ago under its 50x15 initiative,(www.50x15.com) as it believed Nivio was going to be an instrumental partner to make sure 50% of the world had computing access by 2015. More recently, the potential of Nivio was seized by India's largest private telco, Bharti Airtel Limited, who signed an agreement to launch co-branded services to its millions of customers across India. Nivio is a start-up company with head-quarters in Switzerland and R&D in India. It was founded in August 2004 and successfully launched its' on-line service in April 2008 with over 50,000 beta registrations to date. It is set to begin a full-scale launch of the device globally in the next two quarters; with a focus on emerging markets where PC penetration is less than 3-4% of the population.
