Varian Designs Debuts New Collection at Dwell on Design

June 22, 2009 - PRLog -- Varian Designs (http://www.variandesigns.com), a San Francisco-based design atelier known for its distinctive hand-hewn rustic-modern home furnishings, is pleased to introduce their newest collection at Dwell on Design (www.dwellondesign.com), a three-day festival of modern design to be held in Los Angeles later this month.  Broen, which means “bridge” in Danish, is a unique line of architectural tables and seating that blends natural materials with manmade.  Hewn from sustainably harvested walnut, white oak salvaged from whiskey casks, and recycled laser-cut steel the Broen collection is another example of what the perfect balance of imagination, originality, and exquisite execution may yield.

“Broen represents another evolutionary step for Varian Designs,” explains Founder and Designer Forest Dickey.  “These designs combine the simplicity and beauty of natural materials with the contrasting complexity of architectural steel.  It is a departure from past designs, but still maintains our trademark rustic-modern feel and commitment to unique design and high quality craftsmanship.”

The new Broen collection is currently comprised of three main pieces ranging in size from a large desk to single, upholstered chairs.

Ashlar Table
The Ashlar table is made from claro walnut, white oak and steel.  The regal wood slab sits on an arched steel trestle.  This rich, dark piece makes a very sculptural coffee table.

Bartizan Desk
The asymmetrical Bartizan is at once evocative and functional.  The wood slab sits upon a single steel trestle and a simple box carcass that houses practical storage and drawers.  

Dagda Chair
Ideal for dining or as an occasional chair, Dagda’s design is inspired by the work of Charles Rennie Macintosh.  Made from sustainably harvested Ash and Claro Walnut, the Dagda Chair can be upholstered in COM or in the pictured Greenguard certified Knoll fabrics.  

Varian Designs will be showcasing the new Broen collection at Booth # 1209.  Dwell on Design will be hosted at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 26th to June 28th.
