San Diego Redevelopment Agency Announces Redevelopment Opportunity in Linda Vista

Redevelopment Agency calling for qualifications and proposals

Sept. 22, 2009 - PRLog -- SAN DIEGO – The Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Diego has issued a request for qualifications and proposals (RFQ/P) calling for the redevelopment of two parcels owned by the Agency in the Linda Vista community.

The Agency is seeking a development team to design and carry out the re-development of a 1.6-acre site that is located in the heart of Linda Vista, northeasterly of the intersection of Linda Vista Road and Comstock Street. The Agency envisions a project which is skillfully woven into the neighborhood and maximizes the potential of this unique site.  The site currently houses a skate rink and several small retailers, and the existing structure is considered to be potentially significant from the perspective of historical resources.  The site also consists of a secondary adjacent corner parcel that is vacant.  This redevelopment opportunity calls for the redevelopment and rehabilitation of the existing structure in a manner that respects notable architectural features and calls attention to the significance of this site and the Linda Vista community at large in the history of the region while ensuring the long term viability of the new project. The RFQ/P call for the redevelopment of both Agency-owned parcels in a cohesive manner with a redevelopment project that complements and is well integrated into its surroundings.

The Agency believes that while this project has its share of challenges, its site and situation also present unique opportunities to implement an innovative and vibrant project that is characterized by high levels of sustainability and design standards and serves as an asset to the community. The Agency seeks to implement a financially feasible project which incorporates technology and practices that emulate and surpass current norms for sustainable infill development and adaptive reuse. The project should serve as a model of how sustainable development can be achieved within the constraints usually associated with historical structures.

Creative and capable development teams are invited to participate in this unique redevelopment opportunity in the neighborhood of Linda Vista.

Responses to the RFQ/P are due to the Redevelopment Agency by 5:00 p.m. on October 30, 2009.  For more information and a copy of the RFQ, please visit the Agency’s web site at http://www.sandiego.gov/redevelopment-agency/.
