May 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Julia and Robert Greifeld, who both graduated from Iona College in 1979, were honored at the 49th Annual Trustee Award Dinner Dance, held recently.

Iona also announced that the dinner proved to be a successful fund raiser. “We are pleased to report we raised over $700,000 for scholarships and student-centered initiatives,” said Dr. Rich Petriccione, Vice President of Advancement and External Affairs.

Mr. and Mrs. Greifeld received the 2010 Legacy Award which Iona College created to acknowledge unique individuals who have chosen to give of themselves and their resources to benefit the lives of others.

Residents of White House Station, New Jersey, the couple has long been strongly committed to Catholic education and community service especially providing scholarships for less fortunate youngsters at the elementary, high school and college levels. Mrs. Greifeld serves on the Board of Bard College at Simon’s Rock, Great Barrington, Massachusetts and the Board of Somerset Hills Handicapped Riding Academy, Oldwick, New Jersey, where she also serves as a volunteer.

Elected earlier this year a member of the Iona College Board of Trustees, Mrs. Greifeld has been involved in her parish church, Saint Helen’s, Westfield, New Jersey and has served as a CCD teacher at the parish for the past 10 years.

Having attended Catholic schools since kindergarten, Mrs. Greifeld said that her four years at Iona College “were instrumental in transforming me into the confident, assertive woman that I am today. I internalized the Catholic value of community service and the responsibility of sharing time and talent with others younger and less fortunate.” At Iona, Mrs. Greifeld earned a B.A.Degree, majoring in Communication Arts and was a member of the Cornelian Honor Society. She graduated magna cum laude.

Since 2003, Robert Greifeld has been President and CEO of the NASDAQ Stock Market, Inc., the largest electronic screen-based equity securities market in the U.S. In 2009, NASDAQ OMX Group was named “Company of the Year” by Forbes Magazine and was also ranked as one of the best performing companies in the U.S. as part of the Business Week 50, and it was named to Fortune Magazine’s annual list of 100 Fastest Growing Companies.

Prior to joining NASDAQ, he was an Executive Vice President with SunGard Data Systems, Inc., a multi billion dollar market cap company.

A member of the Business Roundtable, the Financial Services Roundtable and the Partnership for New York City, Mr. Greifeld earned a B.A. in English from Iona College and a Masters in Business from New York University, Stern School of Business. He is Chairman of the USA Track and Field Foundation which supports emerging athletes and inner city youth athletics.

Mr. and Mrs. Greifeld are the parents of three children: Bob, 23; Greg, 21 and Katie, 16.

U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer, Donald Trump and CNBC business anchor Maria Bartiromo served as honorary chairs of the Trustee Award Dinner Dance committee.
