Follow on Google News | Art of Our Faiths Brings Rochester Art and Finger Lakes Media TogetherThis new exclusive exhibit combines the beauty of religion and art together for a never before seen spectacle.
By: Finger Lakes Copywriting Churches have long been known as architectural mavericks, filled with history, design, and integrity. No matter what denomination, each church satisfies a spiritual need that is only fueled by the art that is displayed. Having an art show that captures the magic and mystery of faith is not only moving, but also uplifting to so many, bringing a spectrum of world wide inspiration. “The idea hit me at once,” John Paul, Chair and Art Acquisition of the program says. “There are many famous artists in the area whose works are in museums and shows worldwide. Some are not totally religious, but connected spiritually.” Originally titled Art of our Churches, it’s been renamed Art of our Faiths to capture a wider audience. This also allowed some exquisite pieces to be displayed from the homes of private art collectors in the Rochester area. In addition to area churches, much of the art in the exhibit is spiritually based, coming from prestigious social action programs and organizations such as Colgate Rochester Divinity School, Temple B’rith Kodesh, Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence (University of Rochester), and the Women’s Interfaith Institute. Others artists include Christine Henehan, Nancy Beikirch, with promotional photography by George Wallace. There is also a raffle to win an etching from famed artist Nancy Beikirch, who uses the technique called Aquatint, a form of Intaglio printing where impressions are produced from an inked metal plate. http://www.youtube.com/ Art of our Faiths is showing daily through Sunday, June 13th at the First Congregational Church at 58 North Main Street, Canandaigua New York.
