Stories and Suggestions for Successful Foster Parenting Needed by September

Titled Foster Parenting: Building Your Toolbox, Fostering Connections, EMK Press, http://www.emkpress.com/fosterparenting.html, seeks submissions by September 1, 2010 from all who work with and for children and youth in foster care.

From EMK Press' website:
EMK Press, a leader in innovative publications and resources for families touched by adoption, is working to create a new parenting book specifically to address the unique challenges of being a foster parent. How do you successfully parent the children who come into your care for the time they are with you? From foster care and adoption to kinship care and beyond; what do you need to meet the needs of the children in your care? Each child will be unique and require a different set of tools in your toolbox. This book will help not only new and experienced foster parents alike, but be beneficial to those who work with foster parents: caseworkers, social workers, judges, CASA's, GAL's, and others.

Editors invite foster parenting stories of all types to be included:

Submissions are welcome from all who work with, live with, and support foster children.
Topics might include:
• Deciding to Foster
• Parenting in the Trenches–attachment, saying no to placements, respite...
• Parenting Teens
• Special Needs Children
• Mental Health Issues
• Advocating
• Educating
• Is love enough?
• School Issues
• Racial Differences
• Large Families
• Finances
• Working with Birth Families
• How fostering impacted my life and what I learned.

This book will become a valuable resource and the essential guidebook for all parents who choose to become foster parents...from placement and beyond.

Edited by Kim Hansel, editor of Fostering Families Today Magazine, her extensive experience and knowledge of the fostering community will help make this resource useful to all in the foster community.

"Foster parenting is a both a rewarding and a challenging job and we hope to help foster parents be the best prepared to support and nurture the children who are placed in their care," said Kim Hansel, editor of the new Foster Parenting book.  "A comprehensive book like this just doesn't exist for foster parents and is so needed. It will also be such a benefit to those who work with and support foster families."
