Follow on Google News | Minegar Nets Best Finish of Season in RMCS ActionDave Minegar, driver of the BodyBuilding.Com Chevrolet, inched closer to the championship lead with a strong third place performance Saturday night in the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series event at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Minegar qualified third fast putting him in the 12th position to start the race. When starting at the rear of the field, lapped and/or slower traffic is always a concern, so while patience is critical so to is moving forward quickly. The later would prove most important in this race as the race went caution free and only took 26 minutes and 8 seconds to complete. Minegar moved inside the top ten on lap ten and methodically took positions as track conditions allowed. By lap 25 he had moved up to third in the running order but was mired in lapped traffic which slowed his progress. While the leaders set a torrid pace, Minegar was left to negotiate traffic and try and close the gap. In the end, Minegar ran out of time although he managed to close the gap to within one second of second place. "I am real happy with the finish," Minegar said. "We have had more than our share of issues so far this season and to qualify well and move through field and finish third is a testament to this BodyBuilding.Com team and how hard they have been working." The finish moved Minegar up to fifth place in the point standings after four races. He now sits 69-points out of fourth place and 177-points out of first. "This was a really good point's night for us," Minegar offered. "I had a lot of fun in the race. John (Dillon) made us all look a little foolish so we certainly have our homework to do for the next event. All the guys did an awesome job in the race and I am sure the fans saw a great show." The series utilizes up to a 20-car invert putting the fast qualifier in time trials at the rear of the field to start the main event. And for most of his RMCS career, Minegar has started at the rear of the field as he holds 21 career Sharp Powder Coating Fast Time Awards. Throughout his career he has had an average starting position of 15th in every RMCS event and of his 55 career series starts, 42 have resulted in top ten finishes. "My crew did an outstanding job for the race," Minegar stated. "They never waver and always find a solution. This finish is all about them." Minegar is supported by Craig Bell, Larry Bowers, Matt Wolfkiel, Kirk Wartman, Ron Minegar, and Tyson Garten. The next event for Minegar Racing is at Meridian (ID) Speedway Saturday, June 26. The historic quarter-mile paved oval is where Minegar started his racing career winning a local championship and many races. Even though the track is familiar, there will be plenty of changes in store for competitors as the a new racing surface and configuration will greet the teams.
