June 18, 2010 - PRLog -- Girls lead the race in overall Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) pass percentage in both class X and XII with 98.77% and 98.26%, respectively. Even among the six special category (including SC/ST/OBC) toppers, four are girls.

For Delhi and NCR, the shining stars came from Ghaziabad-based Holy Child School from where science student Kamelia Mazumdar, with an aggregate of 98%, topped the class XII category and Ayushi Singhal (96.80%) had the highest scare in class X. Overall in class X, Delhi and NCR increased its pass percentage by 2.12% to score 98.26%, but failed to retain the momentum in class XII, where it dropped by 2% from last year at 96.88%.

‘‘Even though the number of girls appearing for the exams is significantly lower than boys, every year the girls not only manage to score better pass percentage, but also come on top both in class X and XII. And this year has been special as all the three toppers are girls,’’ said the officiating chief executive and secretary of the CISCE, Gerry Arathoon.

The CISCE 2010 results declared on Wednesday was marginally better than last year in overall pass percentage. While the class X overall pass percentage, at 98.31%, was up by 0.26% from 2009, the class XII result (97.11%) saw just a slight jump of 0.03%.

Among the regions, south and west stood on top — west has a near-perfect pass percentage of 99.62% in class X while south topped the class XII pass figures with 98.72% pass percentage. Meanwhile, schools abroad affiliated to CISCE also presented an impressive show with 100% pass percentage in class X and 97.52% in class XII.

This year, students from 1,573 schools sat for the class X exams, an increase of 10% from last year. The class X exams was conducted in 64 written subjects of which 21 are Indian languages and 11 foreign languages. ‘‘For the first time, we have introduced centralized evaluation so as to arrest any sort of discrepancies. By this new system the teachers are not allowed to take the answersheets home for evaluation but have to come to the designated centres for evaluation,’’ said Arathoon.
