The mane component of Zuma's program relies on our rescued horses. The parallel between rescued horses and rescued child provide a tremendous learning and bonding opportunity for these at risk youth.Horses mirror a child's inner most feelings giving us an opportunity to see what is really going on. Many of these children are in need of something beyond medication and traditional talk therapy. Zuma's recognized that need and has developed a very effective program to address the special needs of these children. Equine Assisted Experiential Learning provides a safe loving environment in which these children can overcome the troubles of their lives. At Zuma's, each child is paired with an equine therapy partner, a mentor and a group of trained facilitators. The team atmosphere becomes some what of a constant for these children, a group they can depend on being there for them. Often times the foster care system moves children from home to home making bonding difficult. Zuma's team develops that much needed bond for them. Our kids look forward to seeing both their horse and their mentor, providing that constant they so much desire. Zuma's is fortunate for the support of our equine therapy partners from the ASPCA for the second year in a row. The largest costs of our program are our equine therapy partners and we are grateful that the ASPCA shares our desire to rescue horses from at risk circumstances. Non profit collaboration between organizations like ASPCA and Zuma's sharing a common goal benefit larger populations of those in need, a win win situation providing a larger benefit through allegiance. # # # Unique services provided for the welfare of foster children and slaughter bound horses.
