Clear Skies and Enthusiastic Fans Great NASCAR K&N Pro Series at Infineon Raceway

June 18, 2010 - PRLog -- David Gilliland top the charts in both practice sessions for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West at Infineon Raceway on Friday morning.

The second-generation driver registered a lap of 78.121 seconds (91.704 mph) around the twisting 1.99-mile road course in preparation for Saturday's Thunder Valley Casino Resort 200.

David Mayhew, who enters the event leading the championship standings, was second quickest with a lap of 78.390 seconds (91.389 mph). He was followed by Jason Bowles, who is going for his third consecutive win in this event. Rounding out the top five were Andrew Ranger, a two-time champion in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, and road race ace Boris Said. Drivers in sixth through 10th on the chart were Greg Pursley, Brandon Davis, Mattias Ekstrom, Luis Martinez Jr., and Jim Inglebright.

Qualifying for the Thunder Valley Casino Resort 200 is set to begin at 1:50 p.m. on Friday.

Greg Pursley, driver of the Gene Price Motorsports Ford, is third in the series point standings and registered the sixth quickest lap in the final one hour practice session for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. The team worked on a brake issue and only needed the final 15 minutes of practice to put the car within a second of the top spot.

"The car feels really good," Pursley said. "Despite the issues we had with the breaks it got through the corners really well. I think we have a top five qualifying car but we will know in about an hour."

Jonathon Gomez from Twin Falls, Idaho will be starting his first road course event in the series but quickly adapted to the track. Gomez is currently fourth in the point standings and knows this event can go a long way towards his championship hopes. "I was a little nervous before practice but I got real comfortable with the car," Gomez said. "The car is really stable and I just spent the practice sessions learning the groove and hitting my marks."

Rick Boysal,  who calls Infineon Raceway home after beginning his career racing various types of sports cars at the picturesque road course layout, is driving a car prepared by Thompson Motorsports out of Jerome, Idaho. Boysal finished 19th last season in his first series start and looks to improve his finishing position this year. "I really do not have a lot of laps in this type of car so I am still getting comfortable with it," Boysal said. "The Thompson team continued to tweak the set up and we picked up a lot."

With qualifying being in the heat of the day, track conditions will change quite a bit from practice. The race is scheduled for 12:30pm PT on Saturday so race conditions should mirror the qualifying session.
