Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter Comes to the Rescue

Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter rescues 32 cats from a NJ apartment

July 27, 2010 - PRLog -- An urgent email to Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter on Sunday July 25 sparked a
rescue effort to save 32 cats and kittens from a garden apartment in
Parsippany NJ. It took the Mt. Pleasant staff less than 24 hours to organize
this life saving venture.

The resident became overwhelmed by the amount of cats that she was
caring for and reached out for help. When the local animal control facility
was unable to assist her, Mt. Pleasant agreed to step in. The Shelter staff
went into the home at 3pm on Monday July 26 and rescued all 32 cats within
one hour. Dr. Linda Dulude at Parsippany-Troy Hills Animal Hospital in Lake Hiawatha offered her assistance and provided exams and rabies vaccinations for all the cats.

The Mt. Pleasant staff was at the shelter until the late hours of the night processing the cats, who range in age from 3 months to 10 years old, and providing the necessary medical care they so desperately needed. It is estimated the cost to care for these cats will be over $7,000.

"The cats are all exhibiting medical conditions typical of cats coming
out of a hoarding situation" said Nicole Lewy Drummond, Executive
Director Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter "They have upper respiratory
infections, eye infections, and some other more serious medical
conditions including dental disease and pneumonia. But we are
treating everyone and giving them the medical attention they deserve."

"The cats are all very friendly and look to people for affection, you can tell they feel better already with quality food and a less stressful environment." said Suzanne Griffin, Development Director.  "I am so proud to have Mt. Pleasant lead the efforts in this rescue to save the lives of local cats who deserve a loving home." said Nicole Lewy Drummond "The Shelter staff came together today to assist our community and I am so glad to be part of the solution."

Mt. Pleasant would like to thank Dr. Dulude and all of the local rescues who will be assisting in the coming days. Noah's Ark Animal Welfare Association in Ledgewood, St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in Madison, Denville Animal Control, Randolph Animal Pound, PASS and Feeding the Forgotten in Parsippany are some of the many shelters and rescues that will be assisting.
