The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa safety act, commonly referred to as the VGB act was created to enhance the safety of public and private pools and spas, to reduce child drownings and the number of suction entrapment incidents, injuries and deaths; as well as educate the public on the importance of constant supervision of children in and around water. As of July 1, 2010 the VGB Act requires all drains to have an anti-entanglement cover and an automatic shut-off system. Without these in place you are at risk of fines up to the maximum penalty of $1.825 million. Willful noncompliance may result in criminal proceedings.
