Gomez, a 27-year old competitor from Twin Falls, Idaho, has momentum on his side after claiming the last series victory held at Toyota Speedway back in July. Gomez edged his teammate Derek Thorn by a nose to claim his second career series victory and close to within seven points of Thorn for the championship lead. Gomez has started seven career SRL races and has finished in the top ten in six of those races. This season he has claimed two wins, four top five and five top ten finishes in six events. His consistency has garnered the attention of not only his competitors but regional and national media as well. This Saturday night is a race like most others but for Gomez he has something to prove. "We are only as good as out last race and we were pretty good last time out," Gomez offered. "This series is tough to win in and Irwindale always brings out a lot of great competitors. It is a place that everyone wants to win at." In a series where qualifying is key, Gomez has averaged a 5.8 qualifying effort and that is both good and bad depending on the invert for the event. More importantly, he has averaged a 6.1 finishing position and that is second to only point leader Thorn. "I would love nothing more than to sweep both events at Irwindale this year," Gomez said. "Ron (Copeland) and the rest of the guys have been working really hard and we feel the car will be even better then it was back in July. The fans are awesome at Irwindale and the race should be a lot of fun." Jonathon Gomez is in his fourth year of competitive racing having won local track titles at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls and competed in various Late Model events the past couple of seasons. He has also started 17 NASCAR K&N Pro Series races since 2008 scoring eight top ten finishes and is in his first full-time season in the NKNPS. Gomez will contend for championships in both the NASCAR K&N Pro Series as well as the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour this season. Jonathon Gomez is supported by Heritage Cattle Company, Century Boatland, J&C Custom Harvesting, United Oil, Modern Machinery, DJ Safety, and Gomez Farms.
