The Vice Chairman also spoke about The Akshaya Patra Foundation, an Initiative of ISKCON Bangalore which is responsible for implementing the Government-run mid-day meal scheme in 8 states and feeding over 1.2 million children, making it the world’s largest NGO-run mid day meal program. Chanchalapathi Dasa, the Vice Chairman of ISKCON addressed the gathering of over 700 people who had assembled at the Vaikunta hill on Kanakapura road. With a brief recap of ISKCON’s journey in Bangalore, he illustrated that the ‘Hare Krishna Movement’ began in a 2-bedroom house in Rajajinagar in 1978. A few legendary photographs of the house along with those of the first Ratha Yatra, held in 1978, were exhibited. The Vice Chairman also revealed that the assets of ISKCON Bangalore, when it was initiated, included 2 Vijay scooters, a type-writer and a Bi-cycle. The evolution, since then, was molded in a set of brilliant photographs which were presented. A video depicting the rituals, festivities and cultural and artistic agenda in the temple was also presented. Talking about Cultural imperialism, Chanchalapathi Dasa said that the era of Globalization has changed the nature of cultures and cultural exchange. “Dominant world powers have begun to shape our societies and create a homogenized world culture.
