Follow on Google News | Electoral Reform Tour Comes to Orlando, Oct. 9thFlorida Initiative for Electoral Reform hosts a Civic Forum on Electoral Reform in Orlando, Saturday, October 9th. Topics include disenfranchisement, voting rights restoration, redistricting, campaign finance reform, and instant runoff voting.
Among the speakers will be Carolyn Thompson of Advancement Project and Susan Clary of the ACLU's central Florida chapter. Policy analyst and urban designer Michael E. Arth will cover IRV and FLIER regulars Yury Konnikov and Fred Markham will present on redistricting and campaign finance reform, respectively. FLIER has been holding these Civic Forums on Electoral Reform since March 20th when their first was held in Boca Raton. Over the past two weeks they have put on these events in Jacksonville and Sarasota, educating the public and making a case for why electoral reforms are necessary to achieve representative democracy in Florida. The event will be held at the University Unitarian Universalist Society at 11648 McCulloch Road beginning at 1:00 pm. # # # The Florida Initiative for Electoral Reform is a non-partisan coalition of groups and individuals recognizing the need for electoral reforms to enrich and expand democracy in our state and its localities.
