Presented in association with Ebony Repertory Theatre, JazzAntiqua will celebrate “the art of jazz” with a performance event that weaves riveting dance with live jazz music, soul-stirring poetry and stunning visual art to create an evocative evening bubbling with rich, jazzy textures. Highlights include the premiere of "EVOLVE," There will be one performance only on Saturday, November 13 at 8:00 pm at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center, 4718 W. Washington Boulevard in Los Angeles. For visual artist Michael Massenburg, whose projected images will create the onstage backdrop, the opportunity to collaborate with JazzAntiqua reaffirms his ‘creativity has no boundaries’ philosophy. “Artists who explore the possibilities transcend their own disciplines, genres and preconceived ideas. We who choose so are used by the creativity,” Founded in 1993, JazzAntiqua continues its mission to honor the jazz tradition as a vital thread in the cultural fabric of African American history and heritage, and a defining element of the American experience. Under the artistic direction of choreographer Pat Taylor, the company is committed to increasing awareness of and appreciation for jazz as an American legacy through collaborative projects that educate and inspire, as well as entertain. JazzAntiqua is the recipient of awards from the California Arts Council, Los Angeles County Arts Commission, Department of Cultural Affairs and the Doolittle Foundation. The company has been presented at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Luckman Fine Arts Complex, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California African American Museum, Alex Theatre, The Jazz Bakery, Japan America Theatre, Ford Amphitheatre and many other venues. Taylor’s work has also been showcased at Glashuset (Stockholm), Lehman Performing Arts Center (New York) and Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.
