Hartlepool Dental therapist heads to Uganda on dental mission

Nov. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- Joanne Brown, a dental therapist at Hartlepool based Elliott McCarthy Dental Care, will this Saturday (6th November) head to Uganda for two weeks as part of team undertaking a dental mission on behalf of Christian Relief.

Joanne, who has been working for Elliott McCarthy Dental Care since June of this year, will join up with four other North East based dental professionals as part of a ten person team which will be running a series of mobile dental clinics offering basic dental care and oral health education to people in the rural villages of Kumi and Mbale in Eastern Uganda.

The trip came about due a colleague of Joanne’s participation in a similar trip held earlier in the year, Joanne explained:

“A good friend of mine who I met whilst studying at University was part of a team that went on a mission earlier this year and upon her return the stories she told about the difference such a trip can make really made me want to be part of the next Christian Relief Uganda Dental Mission and help put a smile on the faces of people”

To be part of the mission Joanne has had to raise in excess of £1000 to cover the costs of flights, accommodation, visas and vaccinations and has done so via a range of fund raising initiatives including car boot sales, a Halloween fancy dress party and a collections taken at Elliott McCarthy Dental Care reception.
