Dec. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- The Dekalb Chamber of Commerce will be the recipient along with The Ken Ford Foundation (KFF) for this holiday season as we ‘open the season of giving’ for new and used string and other instruments for local students throughout the month of December.  The donation drive will kick-off the Chamber’s First Monday Lunch featuring CEO Burrell Ellis & Commissioner Larry Johnson on December 6, 2010 at 11:15 am - 1:30 pm at Atlanta Perimeter Center Marriott 246 Perimeter Center Parkway in Atlanta.

The Ken Foundation is calling on all partners, supporters and the community at-large to make donations to help The Ken Ford Foundation meet their fundraising goal for their overall mission, “Embrace Your Unique Talent”  to provide quality music and strings education.

The Ken Ford Foundation focuses on enhancing academic excellence through music appreciation.  Contrary to popular belief, music does play a very important role in a child's education.  Music programs have been pulled out of most schools as unnecessary spending of tax dollars, and replaced by highly competitive sports.  We choose to consider music a Sport.  America spends 29 times more dollars than any other nation on education, yet ranks 14th out of 17 countries in academic excellence.  The three top nations of academics all have mandatory music requirements for their students.
In June, Electric Violinist Ken Ford launched The Ken Ford Foundation and celebrated with over 500 attendees at The Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center in DeKalb County and made a pledge and commitment to the community that he would make sure the students in the state of Georgia would have opportunities to master music in their own communities.  “We encourage you, our community and education partners to help make this work”, Ken Ford comments.

To make a donation and/or be a part of this important community fundraising initiative, please contact The Ken Ford Foundation, www.thekenfordfoundation.org.

About THE KEN FORD FOUNDATION

The Ken Ford Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to enhance the educational experience of youth through an appreciation of music, while fostering creativity and encouraging self-confidence. The Ken Ford Foundation's (KFF) mission is to encourage generations of youth ages 5-18 to embrace their unique talents through an appreciation of music. Our philosophy is that musicians achieve higher grade point averages (GPA) and test scores than non-musicians in the same school.  Exposure and opportunity to study music uniquely enhances higher brain functions required for reading, mathematics, chess, science, and engineering.
