Dec. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Start with a chunk of clay, add high school students, water, paint, pizza and pop; you end up with an event full of creative fun that supports the community.  Kilns-n-Clay and the North Collier Junior Women’s Club hosted a Bowl-a-thon to create clay pottery for Empty Bowls.  High school students from around the community were invited to handcraft bowls, work on the pottery wheel, and paint bowls to donate to the Empty Bowls Naples Event.

Kilns-n-Clay instructors, Alison Chappell and Dee Ann Miller, volunteered their time and crafters knowledge to teach students how to throw bowls on a wheel, while Liz Carter showed students the creative art of hand building bowls, http://www.youtube.com/user/Bowlathon#p/u/0/55bFS-b3iDw. The students who donated their time to create bowls for the event were treated to tasty pizza from Papa John’s Pine Ridge store and Sweetbay donated beverages to students for volunteering at the event.  The event created an array of beautiful bowls that will be fired and ready for selection at the Empty Bowls Naples Event.

Empty Bowls is a nationwide fundraiser for local food banks. The Empty Bowls Event in Naples is one of the major fundraisers to benefit the Harry Chapin Food Bank.  A $10 donation permits an individual to select a handmade ceramic bowl and taste a delicious soup served up by one of the local restaurants.  Local artists will also donate pieces for auction with all proceeds going to the local food banks.  Save the date, bring a friend, and choose a bowl that you will cherish for charity.  It is through your generous donations that we can fight hunger one bowl at a time.

The Empty Bowls Naples Event will be held at Cambier Park on January 29th from 11am-2pm.  To learn more about this event and other Empty Bowls Naples events, please visit http://www.emptybowlsnaples.com or contact us at naplesemptybowls@yahoo.com.
