Jan. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Unfortunately the one thing you cannot stop is time - and this is one thing you will discover is the biggest 'enemy' of your car air suspension. The fact of the matter is your air springs are made from rubber components which will dry-rot in 5 to 7 years. And there is just no getting round this.

So what can you do you do when the enemy is unbeatable?

Well the short answer is not much unless you've got super powers to stop time. When it comes down to it, wear on your car air suspension system, it really is just one of those things you have to live with and budget into the cost of running your vehicle. Because when its running smoothly your air suspension gives you the most luxurious and comfortable ride available. There is no denying it's worth the money and as the old saying goes when its good it's great but when it's bad it's terrible. Actually in the case of your cars suspension, when it's bad its worse than terrible because it becomes a safely hazard, not just a comfort issue.

While time is the biggest enemy, it's not the only one. The key is being aware of what can actually go wrong so below is s a quick overview of seven of the most common car air suspension problems and their causes.

1. Air bag failure
Cause - over time rubber can rot due to old age, or moisture within the system. Over time the rubber may also dry out.

2. Punctures to the air bag
Cause - debris on the road getting into the system

3. Damaged air bags
Cause - rubbing against the vehicle's frame or other surrounding parts

4. Brushes worn prematurely
Cause - accumulated moisture, dirt and grime inside compressor

5. Air line failure
Cause - air tubes rub against a sharp edge of the chassis or moving suspension component creating sawing effect. Road debris hits the air line causing puncture or tear

6. Compressor failure/burnout
Cause - leaking air springs or air struts or moisture inside system coming into contact with electronic parts

7. Dryer failure
Cause - dryer becomes saturated through excessive moisture build up

If you ignore the fact your air suspension is going to wear or fail and you neglect to regularly maintain and service your vehicle, this leads to serious safety issues' such as a blown air spring. If this happens while traveling at high speeds it could send your car into a spin and you into a ditch. Other Problems that can occur indirectly as a result of your air suspension failing could be loss of work, cost of car rental, towing bills and expensive repair bills. This is without even touching on the general frustration and inconvenience!

The moral of the story is to be prepared to spend money on your car air suspension system. Now you understand what can go wrong and why, you can appreciate the importance of regular maintenance and how it can cost you much more than money if your car air suspension is left ignored.  http://www.strutmasters.com
