Mid America Motorworks participates with Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Iowa

Feb. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- Effingham, Ill. – Mid America Motorworks was contacted by a mechanic in Moline, Ill. to participate in a project organized by the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Iowa. The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Iowa grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Sarah, a teenager from Iowa who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, made her wish to drive the 1970 Volkswagen Beetle that had been stored in her grandfather’s garage for nearly 20 years. Her mother learned how to drive in the car and Sarah decided she also wanted to be part of the car’s history.

Don Laughead, a mechanic in the Quad Cities was contacted to do the restoration work. He in turn contacted Mid America Motorworks for materials. Laughead had dealt with Mid America Motorworks through work he had done on Corvettes. Based on his experience, he decided to contact them for the Beetle project. “I’m really glad I did,” Laughead said. He ordered VW parts including seat covers, running boards, a horn and horn button and more to complete the total restoration project.


Mid America Motorworks is planning to invite Sarah and her family to the 13th annual Funfest for Air-Cooled VW June 4-5.
