April 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Raleigh, NC: Grab your tweety and your flock of friends and migrate over to the “(un)veiled” art exhibit opening reception at the Miriam Preston Block Art Gallery April 7th. Take a gander at the hand built and decorated ceramic birds and birdhouses created by clay artist Marina Bosetti, the media work by Ann Marie Kennedy, fiber art by Ann Roth, and mixed media paintings by Aditya Shringarpure.

Bosetti specializes in the ancient technique known as “cuerda seca” (meaning dry cord).  She lays out the design with a wax resist on red clay tiles and creates shallow pools of colored glazes that are contained within the waxed lines. This cloisonné-inspired method intensifies the richness of the ceramic glazes and gives the tile a soft texture that makes you want to reach out and touch it.

“Personal expression is integral to my work. The designs for my wren and bluebird birdhouses come from what I see around me in nature and in life, combined with a healthy dose of whimsy and fantasy,” said Marina, a New York Pratt Institute grad.

“Birdhouses play an important role in the conservation of birds in populated areas.  For example, the North American bluebird population has been decreasing as bluebirds are unable to find suitable homes to lay eggs and raise their young. You can help to reverse this trend by providing these beautiful birds with places to nest. Once they have found a birdhouse they like they will continually come back to it. Another reason why birdhouses attract birds is because homeowners, who put up birdhouses on their property, usually take the time to clean it and provide a few of the things birds need to get by,” added Bosetti.

This multi-artist show runs through May 23rd. The Miriam Preston Block Art Gallery is located on the first and second floors of the Avery C. Upchurch Government Complex, 222 W. Hargett St. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
