The tour begins in Sydney where Yo Gabba Gabba! will feature as part of the Vivid Live festival – celebrating Sydney as a creative hub with large scale light installations and projections, music performances and collaborations, creative ideas, discussion and debate. In its third year running, the 2011 event is being curated by music impresario Stephen ‘Pav’ Pavlovic – of Modular fame – and Yo Gabba Gabba’s inclusion on the impressive line-up for this year is surefire indication of the show’s dynamic and broad appeal. DJ Lance Rock and friends will be turning the Sydney Opera House into an iridescent spectrum of music and dance in multiple shows across Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June, before they head north for further performances on Tuesday 7 June at Brisbane Convention Centre. The tour will then hit Melbourne for more shows on Saturday 11 June at The Palais Theatre. Yo Gabba Gabba! is a wild kaleidoscope of colour and music that has become a worldwide phenomenon amongst preschoolers, parents and young adults alike. Yo Gabba Gabba! is a show that reaches well beyond its target preschool audience and the show’s music is a large part of the reason. Unlike most other preschool programming, Yo Gabba Gabba! has a cool factor that gives it broad demographic appeal and also exposes the tots to some pretty great tunes. The five characters magically come to life when DJ Lance Rock removes them from his boombox. Together they highlight life lessons young fans can relate to like sharing, being a good friend, trying your best and being polite. DJ Lance Rock’s style sets the tone for the show, making it the kids show most accessible to the post-hip hop generation as well as incorporating a smattering of kid-friendly indie alt-rock. Amassing a league of followers, the hit TV show has garnered a veritable Who’s Who of celebrity and musical special guests including Jack Black, Chromeo, Devo, skating legend Tony Hawk, The Killers, Biz Markie, Mates of State, MGMT, Mark Mothersbaugh, Of Montreal, The Roots, The Shins, Sugarland, The Ting Tings, Weezer and Elijah Wood to name but a few. The first Australian live concert tour of Yo Gabba Gabba! took place in May 2009.
