By: Caryn Kish There are three age/grade level categories for girls who either reside within the Brunswick school district or attend one of the schools in Brunswick, Ohio. Girls entering grades 4 through 6 in the fall are encouraged to apply for the Little Miss court, while girls entering grades 7th through 9th this fall are eligible to apply for the Junior Miss court, and young ladies entering grades 10, 11, or 12 in the upcoming school year can apply for the esteemed Queen’s Court. Previous queens and queen’s attendants have participated in the Miss America Pageant as well as several other pageants and received college scholarships to assist with post high school education. Several opportunities are available for girls who are chosen to be in the Old Fashioned Days’ Queen’s Court including traveling to other festivals throughout Ohio representing Brunswick’s Old Fashioned Days, community service hours, ribbon cutting ceremonies, meet-and-greets with community officials as well as developing new friendships and acquaintances. 2009 Junior Miss, Danyele Galloway said, “There are lots of opportunities for girls who join such as community service hours, which are good for college applications and when applying for college scholarships.” The Royal Court is a year long commitment both for the girls and their parents or guardians. Queens and attendants are required to have appropriate formal attire both for the Old Fashioned Days pageant and various royalty appearances throughout the year.
