June 21, 2011 - PRLog -- You can kick off your summer with local entertainment and fun by enjoying a stay-cation at the 31st annual Old Fashioned Days in Brunswick, Ohio! It’s 5 days of fun, games, rides, contests, music, festival food and festivities and something different each day! You are sure you will be amazed from the moment you enter the main gate (it’s only 2 dollars ages 3 and older) to the last spin on the ferris wheel.

Opening ceremonies begin Wednesday, June 22 about 6:15pm on the main Giant Eagle Stage, followed by a hot air balloon lift off behind Brunswick High School with a final landing just before sunset. New this year is a Cutest Baby contest hosted in the Contest Tent. Brunswick area residents can submit baby pictures that will be voted by festival-goers throughout the 5 day festival.

Wednesday is also the annual Little Miss, Junior and Queen pageant at 7pm in the Brunswick High School, James J. Hayas Performing Arts Center. The pageant is sponsored by Diamond Event Center and Catering, Medina County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Bob Evans Restaurant of Brunswick, and Southwest General Hospital. Musical entertainment begins at 8pm with a Billy Joel tribute band, The Stranger, on the Giant Eagle Stage.

Highlights on Thursday include performances by the Fabulous Mills Family, the Rock Radio Band, and community presentations by Once Upon a Dream dance troupe, and Adventure Karate. Old Fashioned Days welcomes After Midnight as the headliner band on the Giant Eagle main stage. After Midnight will entertain festival-goers with a diverse range of music everything from Top 40 to hits from the 60’s and everything in between. They take to the stage before midnight on Thursday at 8pm. Contests on Thursday are the Pooch pageant and Pie Eating challenge. A spectacular Fireworks will round out the evening at Old Fashioned Days about 10pm.

Old Fashioned Days continues to promise fun-filled contests and music, rides, games and the best food in Medina county on Friday. Another new addition to Old Fashioned Days this year is Zone at the Rec, which many local teens will recognize this dance-club style of DJ and entertainment from the Brunswick Recreation Center events. The Mary Kay Manning dance studio will also perform outside the Esbi contest tent on Friday as well as the Talent Search contest that starts at 8pm.

More contests on Saturday will invite festival guests and their spirit of friendly competition in such events as sack races, corn hole and hoola hoop contests throughout the day and evening. Returning this year is one of Brunswick’s favorite KISS tribute bands, Mr. Speed, and they will shock and get the crowd shouting from the main stage at 8:30pm.

While Sunday is the final festival day for Old Fashioned Days, it will not be without pomp and stance, as the Grand Parade will commence the day beginning at 2pm with both the new Royal Court contestants and outgoing queen and attendants as well as many local community organizations. The annual parade is sponsored by the City of Brunswick and will follow Center Road to Brunswick High School. Immediately following the parade is the crowning of the new Old Fashioned Days Queen, Junior and Little Miss pageant winners. LaFlavour is the daily musical entertainment and the bike drawing will take place at 8pm on Sunday evening in the contest tent.

The festival hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 5 to 11pm, Saturday, Noon to 11pm and Sunday, 1 to 9. Be sure to check the festival’s website for contest rules and daily events happening throughout the week, OldFashionedDays.com.
