Funfest for Air-Cooled VW 2011

May 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Effingham, Ill. 05/09/2011 – The Classic Volkswagen inevitably brings to mind peace signs and flower power. Mid America Motorworks is embracing that connection with a 1960s Woodstock theme for their 13th annual Funfest for Air-Cooled VW. "4 Wheels, 2 Days and Funfest – an Air-COOLed Event" is scheduled for June 4-5, 2011. Be part of this unforgettable experience as thousands of Volkswagens and their enthusiastic owners converge on Mid America Motorworks' corporate campus in Effingham, Ill.

One of the premier VW celebrations in the country, Funfest for Air-Cooled VW welcomes participants from all over the world. This year, Bruce Meyers, creator of the Meyers Manx, will be a special guest at Funfest. Meyers revolutionized the world of off-road racing by designing a lightweight dune buggy using a VW frame and fiberglass. From there the Meyers Manx was born and has become the most copied vehicle in history.

Mid America Motorworks is excited to announce that they will makeover a 1969 Manx with the help of Dune Buggy Archives during Funfest. The makeover will include a variety of projects, bringing the Manx back to life with the original creator as part of the audience.

Funfest for Air-Cooled VW is always a favorite for VW Clubs. This year, Hot VWs magazine will be working on a feature story profiling Volkswagen Clubs. This feature will appear in an upcoming issue of the magazine and will include profiles and photos of several lucky clubs that attend Funfest.

Guests can look forward to expert seminars, special displays, car show, swap meet, road tour and more. "Celebrity Choice" award judging on Saturday and Sunday recognizes the stand-out VWs from the weekend. Special display parking will showcase VWs with a 60s style. As always, camping on the grounds is free Friday and Saturday nights.

Winners of the 2011 Platinum Bug Award and Passing on the Passion Award will also be announced during Funfest. The Platinum Bug Award is a lifetime achievement award presented annually to individuals who have shown long-term dedication to the preservation and promotion of the classic Volkswagen hobby for future generations. Passing on the Passion recognizes families that share the VW hobby from one generation to the next. Nominations for both awards can be submitted at funfest@mamotorworks.com.
