The Fat Lady is Singing.

Chubby Girl Records Founder Discusses Music Venture.

May 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Tell us about your vision.

"Well I started an independent record label, Chubby Girl Records from my kitchen table. (Laughs) There's a joke in there somewhere ... "

"Chubby Girl Records celebrates gifted music artists who happen to be 'pleasingly plump'. For those who think being plump is not pleasing, then just think of us as 'well-nourished.' "

"My fashion label, Chubby Girl Fashions was created because there is very little sizzle and excitement in plus-size clothing. My goal is to change that mindset."

Where did the Chubby Girl name come from?

"The name is an inside joke between me and God. When God called me to this assignment, I came up with all sorts of reasons why I was unqualified for the task. I asked God: 'Why me?' I mean, It's not like there's a shortage of chubby gospel singers out there. God didn't respond to my feeble protests, hence, Chubby Girl Records was birthed."

Let's talk about gospel music.

"Well, the primary focus of the label is gospel music. Gospel music is one of the few genres where physical appearance takes a backseat to good old-fashioned singing.  But our calling itself is higher than gospel music. Our mission is to exalt Christ, to magnify Him with such artistry that listeners look beyond the externals to experience Christ in a unique way”.

Gospel music and plus-size marketing seems to be a natural alliance. What are your thoughts?

"Gospel music marketing offers a compelling and unique opportunity to positively influence the way plus-size consumers view their bodies. A music collaboration with a fashion-forward artist represents both a new retail offering for Christian music lovers and a breakthrough business model for the plus-size industry."

"According to a Purdue University study, 65% of churchgoers are in the overweight or obese category. Gospel music lovers are an influential demographic. The message to plus-size consumers should be that living a life with purpose can be achieved at any size. We don’t advocate obesity as a healthy lifestyle choice. We advocate a positive self-image as the foundation to holistic health.”

"God's people of all sizes should be celebrated." Keys adds. "Happiness should not begin nor end with a certain size."
