games-ED Develops Tool to help Educators Adopt Games Based Learning

A Games Based Learning Analysis and Planning Tool has been developed by games-ED to help educators to systematically consider five aspects associated with adopting games based learning: design, delivery (usage), technical, outcomes and costs.

May 18, 2011 - PRLog -- Games based learning provides an innovative way to teach subjects and develop personal, learning and thinking skills. The approach is gaining support in the UK and around the world, including a recent announcement by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation of $20M for funding innovative learning including games based learning.

Educators have a lot to consider when adopting games based learning in the classroom. But, games-ED (http://www.games-ed.co.uk) have simplified the selection and planning process by developing a Games Based Learning Analysis and Planning Tool.

"Games based learning isn't one thing. Some people are using commercial games and consoles, others are developing small puzzle type games  and others are developing games based leaning from the ground up. We have developed the tool to enable teachers and lecturers to systematically consider five aspects associated with adopting games based learning: design, usage, technical, outcomes and costs." Paul Ladley, Director at games-ED.

The tool has been developed with experience built up over a decade of designing and delivering serious games / games based learning.

It can be used to:

•   Create buy-in for games based learning;
•   Choose a particular supplier / product;
•   Plan the use of games learning;
•   Design games based learning.

The tool is free to use and can be found on the games-ED site at http://www.games-ed.co.uk/resources-contact.html or on SlideShare at http://www.slideshare.net/gamesED/games-basedlearninganal...
