By: Raevyn A. Jones The Precious Gems Campaign is the brainchild of Author Crystal L. Bass, who chronicled the life of four siblings, coined “Precious Gems,” in her novel Dark Clouds: A Charm City Family’s Struggle, released in September 2010. Although written as fiction, Dark Clouds, includes many of the author’s own experiences growing up in 1980s Baltimore within a home that suffered from abuse and unhealthy relationships. “Many children are afraid to stand up for themselves and instead of talking about issues, families sweep their problems under the carpet as if the issues don’t exist. Many children and teenagers aren’t comfortable talking to their own parents about what they are going through,” said Author Crystal L. Bass, CEO of Crystal Clear Publications.“ The Campaign will consist of • Daily tips to improve communications skills within families; Tips can be sent to @CrystalClearPub or @ThinkBrownINK on Twitter • Weekly (Tuesday) Facebook and Twitter Chats about Parent- • Conference calls with professionals who will provide advice and answer questions about parent-child relationships • A town hall meeting featuring various experts on women, girls and abuse issues and other public figures • A Baltimore-based speaking tour at elementary and middle schools • Precious Gems Mixer in June • Precious Gems Camp for elementary-school girls Specific event dates and locations will be shared in subsequent messages.
