By: Chief Steve Newton, (ret) Newton explained, “We provide a website that agencies with surplus equipment can post, letting our Armed Forces know what is available for them to equip and train the law enforcement agencies they are mentoring. The equipment is a direct gift from American law enforcement agencies to the police in other countries that need help.” Newton continued, “American law enforcement, as with America in general, are generous folks. When they see a need they can assist with they respond in true American fashion. Besides the quicker we can train and equip the local security forces the faster our men and women can come home. The program was designed to help our Armed forces overseas, but we have found that many police agencies in America are hurting for equipment too. We have just now opened the site up for police departments in the U.S. to post their needs also. Hopefully we can act as a clearing house for those who have surpluses and those in need.” http://www.lawenforcementequipmentprogram.org/ stevenewton69@ # # # Law Enforcement Equipment Program has facilitated the donation of more than 1 million dollars in used police equipment to our Armed Forces overseas. This equipment is used by the military to equip and train local police in such diverse areas as Afghanistan and Iraq. End
