July 25, 2011 - PRLog -- The Atlanta Social Media Institute of Atlanta will be offering the second session of a cutting-edge Social Media and Search Engine Marketing (“SMSEM”) course January 23 – April 25 on Monday and Wednesday evenings 6:45 – 8:30 PM in Midtown. Engauge - (*), one of Atlanta's most prominent Social Media Consulting firms, will be providing space in their 22nd floor offices at the Promenade II Building at 15th and Peachtree Street (one block form the Arts Center MARTA). The course is an enhanced version of the SMSEM class that Paul Heller developed and taught at both Mercer’s MBA program and Oglethorpe University (during 2011 spring and summer sessions). Course cost is $695 if paid prior to January 6; $795 thereafter.

The course uniquely combines “hands-on platform” experience (see diagram) with academically rich content and strategy.  Platform experience and strategic application gained through 12 Weekly Graded Mini-Case Assignments that require 4-6 hours to complete in conjunction with take-home quizzes on weekly reading material. See Course Summary on website.

In additon to being able to apply Social Media strategies to your business/organization, students and industry professionals excelling  in this course will be terrific candidates for internships and/or full time job positions in the highly demanded careers in SMSEM within corporations and consulting firms. On website see a recent Email Dialogue Paul had with Focus Brands/Moe’s where a recent student at Oglethorpe is currently a paid internship and they hope to transition her into a full-time Social Media Manager. Paul created this opportunity for her based on his extensive network of SMSEM professionals.

To bring a real-world perspective to the classroom, besides Paul’s hands-on SMSEM experience, he has reached out and collaborated with a multitude of industry gurus on these topics in Atlanta and nationally. Paul has attended insightful workshops and breakout sessions during Web 2.0 Expo in NYC in September 2010, Digital Atlanta in November 2010/2011, SoCon 11 in January, 2011 and Digital Summit Conference in May, 2011. On website see Paul's Resume and Listing of SMSEM companies he has collaborated with in developing this course.

The books used in this course are: “Goundswell”, by Li and Bernoff; and “The Facebook Era”, by  Clara Shih in addition to numerous on-line blog, tutorial and webinar sources.
