Designer, Engineer team up to design a new iPhone4 case that goes beyond simple protection.

Known as "Diff" (a different kind of case) this new concept in smartphone cases to deliver functionality to your phone without sacrificing comfort and protection.

Developed from the premise of solving common problems when using smart phones outdoors.

Diff case virtually eliminates the need to purchase multiple accessories. It offers;

• Adjustable, Removable Sun Shade provides better outdoor screen visibility

• Adjustable, Removable Privacy Hood for texting, tweets, social, web, email

• Rigid Hard-Cover protects glass screen (snaps to front or back - your choice)

• Two Brass-Treaded Tripod Mount holes (landscape or portrait)

• Durable Phone Bumper protects phone if dropped

• Shade/Privacy Hood doubles as KickStand (landscape or portrait)

• Attach to Belt-Loop, Purse, Key Chain via Carabiner clip hole

• Ergonomic “Corner Bump” offering more ways to hold & improved comfort & stability.


According to Jim Armstrong, the inventor of the Diff case, "It started with a wish-list of helpful things that would make a big difference in how I use my iPhone."

1. When outdoors, I grew tired of shading the screen with my hand to block the sun
in order to get a clearer view of the screen. I knew an adjustable sun shade lid (similar to the top flag on my professional camera’s matte box) would make a big difference.

2. In public areas like coffee shops, the subway, etc., I wanted to keep my texting messages and email correspondence private - enough so folks couldn’t peer over and see my screen while I was typing or reading. A privacy hood would suffice for that.

3. I  needed the ability to mount my iphone to a tripod, both vertically and horizontally.

4. A kickstand to prop the iPhone up for hands-free viewing would be awesome.

5. A durable, hard plastic cover as a screen/glass protector would give me peace of mind.

6. A side bumper case would help protect the iPhone from drops.

7. It would be nice to be able to hook my iphone on a belt-loop, camera bag or purse.

8. It could feel more balanced and comfortable when holding, especially with one hand.

It made little sense to me to carry around multiple products which offered only one or two of these useful functions. I needed a different solution that would do it all.

Over a weekday lunch Armstrong told his story to a good friend and professional mechanical design engineer - Brian Hauck.  An entrepreneur, designer and inventor himself, who was immediately confident that they could do it. And just as enthusiastic that they should.

The Diff case has been under development for several months. "It’s taken many hours and countless revisions to get to the point we are now - to present and produce a fully functional case solution for ones iPhone use, protection, and privacy needs." stated Armstrong.
