Sept. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- San Jose, Costa Rica - Online free picks and live odds site SBRForum.com,  announces its 2011 Miss Universe pageant odds from resident handicapper Joe Freda. This year the competition is a heated on between the USA, China and Australia since bookies have made them the betting favorites.

The field of ladies has its share of long shots looking to take the crown, while the USA’s Alyssa Campenella walks the aisle as the contest’s 7/1 betting favorite, and even listed as high as 6/1 at Bodog.

Campanella won June’s Miss USA pageant in Las Vegas as its ‘chalk,’ edging out Tennessee’s Ashley Durham in the final round. The United States has not had a Miss Universe winner since 1997, when Hawaii’s Brook Lee won a record seventh title for her home country.

China’s Luo Zilin (8/1) and Australia’s Scherri-Lee Biggs (10/1) expect to give Campanella her biggest competition. Zilin prepared for Monday’s battle in New York City, where a variety of coaching experts have rigorously worked with the Shanghai native. Biggs looks to follow in the footsteps of Jennifer Hawkins, who was the second Miss Universe winner from “down under,” in 2004.

Venezuela’s Vanessa Goncalves has gained betting interest, presently listed at 14/1. The 25-year-old garnered the Best Evening Gown award in last October’s Miss Venezuela competition, making her a top contender to reach this Monday’s later rounds. Goncalves has also had a large following from the members of SBRForum, including the site’s head oddsmaker, Dax.

Brazil’s Priscila Machado (25/1) may not have as much support from her home crowd as bettors would think. The model received uproars of abuse when winning July’s Miss Brasil pageant, where irate fans had knowledge of her appearance in recent controversial photos. Canada’s Chelsae Durocher (20/1) and Mexico’s Karin Ontiveros (25/1) join other dark horses hoping for an upset. Durocher studied drama at the University of Windsor, while pursuing a career in teaching. Ontiveros looks to take Mexico’s second straight crown, with the feat of two consecutive titles for a nation last achieved by Venezuela’s Dayana Mendoza (2008) and Stefania Fernandez (2009).

Sportsbooks have offered a ‘field’ wager at minus 140 odds, containing all contestants who were not considered among the pageant’s top 45 hopefuls. The group includes Colombia’s Catalina Robayo, who raised eyebrows this week after not wearing underwear beneath her miniskirt in several appearances.

NBC and Telemundo will have live coverage of Monday’s affair, beginning at 9 p.m. (ET). The event’s slated judges include singer-actress Lea Salonga (Philippines), racing driver Helio Castroneves (Brazil), news anchor Connie Chung (USA), model Isabeli Fontana (Brazil), actress Vivica Fox (USA), television’s Adrienne Maloof (USA), and 2003’s Miss Universe winner Amelia Vega (Dominican Republic).
